Thailand has been amazing so far, except the heat. The heat kills me anytime I'm out in the sun. Not because it's massively hot out according to the temperature (it's in the 90's, which is hot) but more so because of the humidity. I feel like I'm in a constant cloud where I can barely breathe. That's been the hardest part about living here, for sure. Not to mention, Alex likes to have air-conditioning battles with me since I like it on the coldest setting possible and she wakes up with icicles in her hair (let's guess who wins this fight!). Haha! Though I do try and compromise, the heat is definitely a killer here, silent and deadly.
This weekend was pretty amazing. Friday night we went out to a different part of town on the song-thauw's which really are my best friends. Like I said, they are these trucks that have two benches in them and they are pretty open air and it's amazingly cheap as well. The first place we ended up was a little restaurant on some side street and just in time because the massive downpour happened pretty shortly after we got in. I absolutely LOVED this place, for more reasons than one. The restaurant owner was this SUPER funny and sweet Thai woman who kept wanting to hang out with us and dance and drink after she closed her shop. She was awesome. The food was really good, though mine took practically an hour to get. At first I wondered why mine took so long, I could only assume it was because I ordered AMERICAN FOOD! Yes! That's right, I ordered a cheeseburger and french fries! It was the first time I saw it available and I do NOT feel ashamed to admit that I ate it and it was wonderful!!! Ha, I digress. We soon realized that what was taking so long was that she was leaving the restaurant and BUYING the food we just ordered from a store around the corner so she could prepare it completely fresh for us. It was AWESOME! :) Then, since it was still raining we got a few drinks. I had a nice coconut smoothie with rum. It was SOOOO good. I love the fact that coconut is everywhere here, and it's REAL coconut. Not the fake shredded kind.
Then we all went to a random bar where there was a live band and they were singing all American English songs. It was a good time. For some reason, I was a bit surprised that all the songs were American songs, but it was good to be surrounded by our language for a change.
Finally we went to a rooftop bar and it was a pretty surreal experience. I've had quite a few "I'm in Thailand, 1 million miles away from my "ordinary" life" moments, but this was a big one. I sat down on planks of wood covered in straw mats that I actually thought I may fall threw at any moment and watched the world before me.
I'm in Thailand... far away from ordinary. But it's an adventure. And I am loving ALMOST every minute of it!
it's been 15 days - and depending on the exact time difference, 16 days since your last update. this is, in your own words "unacceptable."
